ClamBake Cafe interview with Dave Bisbee on what the Give Through Golf program is all about.

When it comes to fundraiser for a charity golf tournament I have not found one as simple as the Give Through Golf Program.

Recently, I interviewed BGCC member Dave Bisbee, Golf Professional and a Principle of Give Through Golf, to get the word straight from the mouth of one of the creators of this very innovative virtual ball drop fundraiser.

Really As That Simple

gtg-logo Today’s busy lifestyle is pushing everyone towards the use of technology to help solve problems and over come challenges.  The non-profit charity fundraising world is no exception. In this tough economy everyone is watching how and where their funds are being spent. Fortunately, there are still millions of people who enjoy supporting worthy causes.  The downside is finding these people and once they are found offering them a quick easy way to make a donation to a charity.

The Give Through Golf Virtual Ball Drop concept is really pretty simple.

  1. A donor can go to the Charity’s web-page created by GTG,
  2. Make a donation of $20
  3. Receive a number that represents one Golf Ball.
  4. That Ball with the number is placed in the drawing list with other donors who have made a donation.
  5. On a specific day chosen by the charity fundraising organization the fundraising is cut off.
  6. The drawing for the prize winner is made during a very well produced and entertaining animated presentation played out as a Ball Drop done from a virtual helicopter.
  7. The third party validated algorithm program selection of the winner is made by the computer and displayed on the screen for all viewers to see.

Give Through Golf Promotional VideoThe excitement is built from the short, rather entertaining, animated video program.  Donors and supporters can watch the presentation from the Charity Golf Tournament (or whatever event the charity chose to organize) or in the comfort of their home or office on their desk top or lap top computer. This allows thousands of donors to be involved in the excitement created around the virtual ball drop.

The fundraising from the Give Through Golf Virtual Ball Drop really is that easy.

Give Through Golf has partnered with Lexus and is now able to offer a Car to the winner for certain ball drop packages.  They also can help the charity organization with securing other wonderful prizes to give away to the winners.

How many times have you listened to a Classic Rock radio program only to have to wade through the same 21 songs over and over?  Aren’t you getting just a little tired of Pick Floyd and the Moody Blues taking up 20% of a music station’s playlist?  When have you EVER heard the CD Cut version of a Van Halen tune on a radio station?  These questions about the state of today’s radio scene, both online and offline, could go on and on…what is the answer to all this misery?

Random Access Radio has just passed its fourth month online with Live on-air play and have now set the pace for the weekly 2 hour program produced every Tuesday from 9:15 to 11:15 EST.  Chris, the on-air personality, and Paul, the back stage manager and creative consultant for the show, add a little more flavor to the program with also offering listeners the opportunity to socialize during the live airing of the show via Google Wave.

RAR also has a Fan Page and Group on Facebook, is out on Twitter as well as having their own web-site for fans to place comments and requests for a special tune to be played.

Random Access Radio is just beginning and already has turned a few people’s heads by jumping out of the box to produce a powerful 256kps crystal clear data stream that makes turning up the speakers again a real pleasure.  This high quality of transmission over the internet does not come from plugging in a CD player and jumping on iTunes.  Nooooo, it comes from Chris’s well thought out and considerable investment in producing only quality.  Man, has Chris’s and Paul’s efforts paying off.

Quality is the name of the game today.  If something does not have quality why bother.  In this failed economy consumers are having to be frugal with their funds.  They are also expanding that frugal philosophy to how they spend their time.  RAR’s efforts to bring quality music to the music listener’s market is helping music lovers, who are also consumers, fill their little personal time with something of quality.

I joke sometimes on Twitter of finally finding a tune or two to play while I am writing my blogs..it is no joke now.  After jumping on board to listening to RAR I now have moved my Blog Writing Day to Tuesday evening during the RAR show.  I would like to think the quality of the music RAR pumps out will rub off on the quality of my blogs.  Maybe it will someday once I stop playing air guitar to Seether’s Gasoline, geez Chris…can you turn that tune up a little?

I see it every time I attend a business networking function.   There are more people who was laid off or decided it was time to find another job.  A college graduate eager to find their place in the business world.  A retiree who decided to pass on their vast business experience.  All hit the business networking groups and have NOT a clue what to expect or do. 

This makes it tough getting started.   Everyone who is in business has experience the feeling of awkwardness when they attend their first gathering of other business people.  Sometimes dealing with un-hosted gatherings or gatherings where there is not anyone or leader who makes an effort to meet everyone at the door, it can be a daunting experience.

Though I now do most of my business networking after a round of golf, I do get out to different groups from time to time to see what is happening in other markets and to LEARN new things..yes, even I can learn a thing or two.

My mission has always been to do what I can to help people do a better job in developing business and in an effort to help those here online who need to get offline to survive, here are 21 tips to use when attending a business networking function.

  1. Carry a pocket full of Business Cards.
  2. Bring everything required to leave a great impression.
  3. Be positive and volunteer in talks, but don’t over talk.
  4. Ask open-ended questions when discussing an issue.
  5. Be as much of a listener as a talker.
  6. Be approachable.
  7. Visit as many groups of interest as possible.
  8. When joining a group commit to help the group grow
  9. Make your first impression the best impression.
  10. Understand the law of successful giving and thankful receiving.
  11. Think about perfecting your handshake.
  12. The goal is in developing relationships.
  13. Attempt to be at the right place and at right time.
  14. Follow up quickly and efficiently.
  15. Cultivate an endless referral network
  16. Aim to highlight what you do for your business
  17. Become someone others come to for knowledge on a subject.
  18. Never miss a scheduled meeting or introduction.
  19. Put the person you are talking to first and You second
  20. Make sure to collect cards from all contacts made.
  21. Never miss a networking event.

I know there are more and when I come up with them I will let you know.  This should get you started on a sound foot so Get Out there and build solid business relationships.  It more than likely will pay off more than a Facebook Fan Page.

As far as live radio golf talk shows go The Golf Club Radio Show is the best in my book.  Why?    Well, not just because I was on the show this past Saturday, but more about the Hostess of the Danielle Tucker.  Danielle Tucker and I met in the Business Golf Country Club, a golf community network that is becoming the place to be online if you are looking for REAL golfers.

What I like most about Danielle’s Show is Danielle..she makes the show..she is the voice and she moves fluidly through the program from guest to guest and intermingles her sponsor obligations in the show as artfully as anyone I have every heard…and I have listened to a lot of talk radio.

As the summer golf turns to winter golf many golfers put their sticks up until warmer weather comes again.  However, do they really have to dump their golf for the weather?  If they are business golfers they should keep the clubs near by.

Here are 3 things golfers should do when the weather in their area keeps them off their home course.

1.  Out of Town Business Conferences

A business person should NEVER..did you hear me…NEVER stop learning how to improve their business.  Just because you spent a dozen years getting your MBA and yada yada …never stop the search for information that will keep you and your business up to date on not just technology but techniques to improve the way business is done.

Most of the time there is a conference that is held that covers a subject you NEED to know about and that conference is out of town.  Since most conferences planners don’t add golf to their agenda there is no reason why you could not make this learning opportunity have a round of golf or two associated with the trip.

Why not ask a client to meet you the day before or after the conference.  OR, be aggressive and have one meet you the day before and another the day after.  This keeps the golf in the business reason column of your accountant’s ledger and pushes a lot of the expenses incurred to being business related…especially if you know how to play business golf.

2.  Golf Schools

Yes, the out of town golf clinic and golf schools make a perfect winter time get away.  For the Business Golfers, here again, is an excellent opportunity to take the staff or a group of VIP customers to a three or four day long golf school. Those staff members and clients who do not know how to play golf get their winter camp training so when the golf season starts up in the spring they are ready to play business golf.

Of course, to make the affair a business opportunity it takes some planning and coordinating, but if you know how to play Business Golf you know how to do this.

3.  Golf Vacations

Naturally, the family also needs to get out of the cold weather.  Taking a golf vacation doesn’t have to be a week long ordeal. A three day weekend, or just a weekend outing does a lot to keeping the mind fresh for dealing with the winter time Blah.

Again, with a little planning the golf vacation can become a great opportunity to plan a meeting with a client or attend the many seminars that are being held on the weekends.  Just make sure the plan includes arranging for something the family can do while you are in the meeting or conference.  Have the golf as part of the conference or meeting for that day you are tied up.

 

There are a number of things a golfer can do to keep their golf game in shape during the bitter winter months.  No matter what level of business you are in, take advantage of what golf can offer to secure a more sound business relationship with clients, employees and vendors.  Learn how to play business golf and it will expand your opportunity to do what you enjoy doing most which is playing golf.
